PRODIGY is anchored at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru. You can read about the NIAS Gifted Education Programme on the rest of this website.
NIAS leads the National Programme on Identification and Mentoring of gifted children (0-18 years), popularly known as the NIAS - Education for the Gifted and Talented programme (NIAS - EGT).
NIAS-EGT works closely with the children, parents, teachers, counsellors, school management and the mentors to provide a holistic support to the overall development of the gifted and talented children.
The vision of the ALC programme is to see eager learners nurtured from a young age into happy, well-rounded, world class achievers, infused with noble human values, effective leadership qualities, critical professional skills, and a genuine love for Nature.
NIAS PRODIGY Fellowship is a platform for highly self-motivated adoloscents to engage in projects that help them gain specialized knowledge and experience in their particular areas of interest.
NIAS- EGT conducts workshops during summer and winter breaks, for the children in the NIAS Education for the Gifted & Talented programme Pool. The workshops provide the children an opportunity to engage in active learning.
Workshops are intended to observe the children in action. They are designed in such a way that it suits the cultural learning context of the child.
The materials are designed for self directed learning, where the content is organised by the difficulty level and not mapped to specific age groups.
To keep the child engaged and challenged and to foster the development of their gifts proper guidelines required to the specific categories below.
In our endeavours to identify and nurture the nation’s brightest young minds, we believe mentorship plays a crucial role. Biographies and retrospective studies of adult achievers in any field suggest the importance of mentors. NIAS-EGT visualizes a mentor as a guide/facilitator in exposing the gifted child or adolescent to knowledge in his/her area of interest, hands-on learning experiences to help develop the child’s cognitive structures, as well as guidance to the child as he/she chooses and commits to a career path. In the absence of both an appropriate curriculum and an adult who can provide guidance, many young potential achievers in India choose a career path that does not match their passion, capabilities, and training. We need to urgently address this in today's world.
